What is a CNC Router & What are the Different Types?
CNC router is a computer numerical controlled machine mostly for 2D and planar parts manufacturing. Some samples can be made with this machine shown here
There are different designs on router machines. Simplest is a 2 axis planar CNC with Z axes up and down control or 2 1/2 axis CNC machine. When Z axis can be controlled simultaneously along with X and Y, the machine called 3 axis router.
One rotational axis in X or Y direction can be added to make cylindrical or 3D objects, The result would be a 4 axis CNC machine, which described in details here

Would be a huge difference in mass production in terms of speed and product precision.
